PROJECTING INTO HELL

Projecting into Hell is a collaborative new media installation designed for Fright Night. The piece depicts the nine layers of Hell through a series of posters with the additional overlay of motion graphics to bring the pieces to life. Every member was tasked with designing and interpretating the meaning of their assigned layer. Featured is the showcase of the installation and my selected layer, Anger.

ARTWORK

For Anger, I ended up depicting the end of the road of one’s journey here. After being guided down the River Styx, the souls of the dead would be greeted with the City of Dis.
Here, it was a stopping point and gateway down towards the lower levels. I wanted viewers of this piece to be faced with this gate itself, almost as if they were the ones who had been sailed down and were now about to face the troubles that hide themselves deeper below.

LAYERS

Six layers come together to bring Wrath to life.
With projection in mind, the approach was to create elements of high contrast to accentuate the key elements present within the artwork. The space that the posters existed in would be dark, so I wanted light to only be drawn onto the areas that would emphasize not only the artwork, but the environment around the art as well.
